Adrian, MI – The Oberlin College women's basketball team turned in a commanding 61-43 victory over the Adrian College Bulldogs on Friday night.
Alyson Jefferson led the way with a career-high 21 points on 5-of-11 shooting and a perfect 10-of-10 showing at the free-throw line.
Gina Lombard buried three triples en route to an 11-point performance while
Bryana Woodard and
Kendal McCall chipped in with six points each.
The Yeowomen controlled the run of play from start to finish, nearly doubling up the Bulldogs in the opening quarter as they led 21-11 after the first 10-minute session.
Oberlin opened the second quarter with a 10-0 burst to swell the lead to 20, 31-11, at the midway point of the frame. Oberlin led by as many as 23 with three minutes left in the half but the Bulldogs would score the final six points of the session to make it a 35-18 Oberlin advantage at the intermission.
The Bulldogs continued to fight in the second half, but the final outcome was never really in doubt as the first-half deficit was too much to overcome.
Oberlin benefited from a large advantage at the charity stripe, going 22-of-24 at the foul line while the Bulldogs finished just 8-of-17 at the stripe. The Yeowomen turned 20 Adrian turnovers into 14 points and finished with an 18-12 advantage in points in the paint.
Oberlin will play its first home game of the year on Wednesday night as the Britons of Albion invade Philips Gym for a 7 p.m. clash.
