Oberlin, Ohio- After celebrating their sole senior,
Camille Franklin, during the pre-game, the Oberlin College women's soccer team fought hard for a 0-0 draw against Ohio Wesleyan. As their season finale, the Yeowomen finish the 2022 year with a 1-4-2 record in conference and 7-6-2 overall record.
Â
In a packed house, the Yeowomen and Bishops battled through 90 minutes of back-and-forth action. Ohio Wesleyan dominated possession through the first half while Oberlin controlled the ball in the second half. In a scoring opportunity right in front of cage
, Benji stood strong against OWU's attack to make the save and hold the visitors scoreless.
Â
Oberlin had a handful of great scoring chances, with the first coming off a set piece from
Heather Benway that sailed off the crossbar in the first half. The second chance came in the 73' as Benway again sent a shot off a free kick opportunity, hitting the cross bar before
Maya Blevins looked to capitalize off the ricochet. In the final shot of the game, Franklin took aim on a deflected save, but sending the ball just wide, the senior was unable to connect with net as the Yeowomen settled for the 0-0 tie.
Â
Although ending the year with a draw, the Yeowomen have plenty to brag about as
Taylor Houck and Co. lead the team to their first winning season since 2017. Additionally, Benway tied Sydnie Savarese '20 for the second-most assists in a single season with seven; just one off the record. The Yeowomen look now to 2023 as they hope to return a nearly full team and continue the momentum from the 2022 campaign.
