Oberlin, Ohio - The Oberlin College volleyball team closed out the 2022 regular season, finishing on the wrong side of a five-set battle against the visiting Alma College Scots on Friday night.
The Yeowomen dropped the first two sets 25-22 and 25-20, but would regroup with a 25-18 win in the third before forcing the decisive race to 15 with a 28-26 triumph in the fourth.
Oberlin led 12-9 in the final frame but it would unravel from there as the Scots scored six straight points to sour the Senior Day celebration.
Seniors
Iyanna Lewis,
Zoe Kuzbari Lindsey Felton, and
Lucy Myers were honored before the first serve.
Jones led the Oberlin charge with 20 kills on 38 swings as she hit an impressive .368 on the night. Lewis dropped in 11 kills while
Lauren Sands and
Cami Sweet each added nine send-downs in the loss.
Playing for the final time on the Philips Gym floor,
Lucy Myers dished out a career-high 53 assists.
Jones paced the defensive effort with 19 digs, while
Jillian Jendsen, and
Zeynep Kaya finished with 15 and 11, respectively.
The match featured 29 ties and 12 lead changes with 15 ties coming in the fourth set.
Oberlin recorded 60 kills compared to the Scots 51, but Alma dropped in 11 aces while the Yeowomen had just five.
The Yeowomen will enter the NCAC Tournament as the No. 8 seed and will take on fifth-seeded Hiram next Friday at 4 p.m. or the campus of Wittenberg University.
