Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Field Hockey Takes Down Earlham in Penalty Strokes

Richmond, Indiana- The Oberlin College field hockey team finished up their Indiana trip taking on Earlham in a Sunday afternoon matchup. A double overtime game that needed penalty strokes to decide a winner, the Yeowomen remained steadfast and took down the Quakers 1-0 (4-3) for their first conference victory. The Crimson and Gold improve to 4-9-0 overall with an NCAC record of 1-4-0.

Now 3-0 in overtime games this season, Post led the Oberlin defense with nine saves in the game and XX in penalty strokes. Offensively, only Salem Holter took a shot in the game, coming early in the third quarter that was blocked by a Quaker defender. Otherwise, the Yeowomen locked down on defense behind great performances from Abbie Patchen and Elly Scheer.

Earlham dominated possession through the match, putting up 30 shots with ten on goal. The steadfast Crimson and Gold defense locked down and held the Quakers scoreless through regulation and two overtime periods to force penalty strokes.

Getting the shootout started, Patchen scored in the team's first attempt while Post made a quick stop to put Oberlin up 1-0. The two teams swapped makes and misses before Eve Weiner scored during her penalty stroke attempt. Tied at 3-3, the Yeowomen looked to their senior keeper to make a game changing save. Doing just that, Post dove to stop the ball now leaning on Patchen to seal the deal. No stranger to penalty strokes, Patchen went right, left, then sank the ball into the back of the net to give Oberlin the 4-3 victory in penalty strokes.

The team takes the field again for a home match with Denison on Friday, October 21. Getting started at 4:30pm the game will have a live stream available here with live stats available here.
