Springfield, Ohio - The Oberlin College football team suffered a 62-7 defeat against Wittenberg University on Saturday evening at Edwards-Maurer Field.
Senior quarterback
Chris Allen Jr. finished 7-of-15 passing for 23 yards before backup
Evan Smith-Rooks came in for relief. The sophomore went 4-9 for 52 yards and to go along with the sole touchdown for the Yeomen. Both
Matt Siff and
Drew Nye came in at QB during the loss, combining for 53 yards. The top target on the day was
Brian Colarusso as he recorded 69 yards on six catches and a touchdown in the third quarter.
Wittenberg dominated the first half of the game, scoring their first touchdown on the first play of the game off a 58 yard pass. The Tigers would put up another 42 points on the Yeomen on top of their 409 yards of offense as they carried a 49-0 lead into the intermission.
In the first possession of the second half, the Crimson and Gold caught fire as they charged 75 yards downfield in 2:23 as Smith-Rooks found Colarusso for a 13 yard touchdown. The rest of the half was less exciting for the Oberlin faithful as Wittenberg got back in the endzone twice more to take the 62-7 victory.
The loss dropped the Yeomen back to 0-6 overall and 0-4 in the NCAC while the Tigers improved to 4-2 and 4-1 in league play.
Elliott Meyer led the Oberlin defense with 13 tackles, while
Brandon Hall added 12 stops in the loss.
