Football Falters Against Hiram

Oberlin, Ohio – The Oberlin College football team suffered a 34-7 defeat to the visiting Hiram College Terriers on Saturday afternoon at the Austin E. Knowlton Athletics Complex.

Oberlin got gashed on the ground as the Terriers rushed for 284 yards while holding the Yeomen to just 29 yards rushing as the visitors won the overall yardage battle 425-233 and had 26 first downs compared to 14.

Chris Allen Jr. was 14-of-21 passing for 130 yards while Evan Smith-Rooks went 11-of-17 for 74 yards. They were each intercepted once and were sacked a combined seven times.

Andres Adam led Oberlin with 45 rushing on three carries. Through the air, Brian Colarusso caught nine passes for 88 yards, while Pierce Muthui-Edwards snagged a career-high 10 passes for 57 yards.

Malcolm Rogers opened the game's scoring with a 22-yard TD run at the 11:52 mark of the first quarter for what proved to be the only points of the opening frame.

Oberlin would even the count at the 12:01 mark of the second quarter as Colarusso corralled a tipped ball in the end zone for a 21-yard YD reception to cap off a 4-play, 50-yard drive that took just 1:43.

Unfortunately, it would be the last time the Yeomen would score as Hiram responded with a 7-play, 61-yard drive to reclaim the lead less than two minutes later when Sean Tejada found Anthony Sessi from 10-yards out.

The Terriers would tack on a pair of field goals to carry a 20-7 lead into the intermission and they would add on two more second-half touchdowns while the Yeomen offense continued to sputter to leave no doubt in the eventual outcome.

Brandon Hall led the defense with 12 tackles while Hunter Green added 11 stops.

The Yeomen are back in action next week as they host Kenyon College at 1 p.m. as part of Homecoming Weekend.
