Berea, OH- After 110 minutes of action, the Oberlin men's soccer team tied with the Yellow Jackets of Baldwin Wallace for a 2-2 draw on Tuesday evening. The team moves to a 3-5-2 record as they begin the gauntlet that is the North Coast Athletic Conference.
Â
The Yellow Jackets set the pace of the game early, taking the first four shots of the game. Senior keeper
Parker Whitcomb managed to save a pair of shots sent to the bottom right corner, but a third shot from BW found its way into the back of the net. Still without a shot in the game, the Yeomen looked to
Harrison Tramposch and
Thomas Kanter to take aim at cage. The shots on cage gave Oberlin the momentum they needed to create a goal scoring opportunity as
Antony Commissaris notched his second goal of the season to tie the game at 1-1. A shot from
Nic Jandeleit at the 43' went wide left, sending the match into halftime.
Â
The Yeomen returned with renewed intensity with a shot from
Ryan Kim, however, the Yellow Jackets managed to retake the lead early in the second half. Looking for another equalizer, Kanter found his way past the BW defense but failed to connect as the shot was saved. Midway through the second half, Whitcomb came up big with a pair of saves to keep Oberlin within one. With just a few minutes remaining, Jandeleit was fouled inside the BW box, earning a penalty kick and the chance to tie the game. Jandeleit capitalized on the Yellow Jackets' foul and scored to send the teams into overtime.
Â
The first over time saw little action from either team as both Oberlin and Baldwin Wallace recorded one shot each. Headed into the second period of overtime, each team had their sights aimed on the golden goal. With the Yellow Jackets shooting first, Whitcomb stood strong again, keeping the Yeomen hopeful. Another shot from BW was saved by Whitcomb once again, as 2:22 remained in the game. In the last second of the match,
Zack Butter launched a shot before it was saved by the Yellow Jackets' keeper. With neither team scoring in extra minutes, the match ended in a 2-2 draw.
The Yeomen return to the pitch again for a road match with the Battling Bishops of Ohio Wesleyan on Saturday, October 2. The NCAC matchup will begin at 7pm with the live stream available
