Oberlin, Ohio – The visiting Ohio Wesleyan University Battling Bishops scored early and often as they blew by the Yeomen 62-6 on Saturday night at the Austin E. Knowlton Athletics Complex.
Kenny Streb opened the game's scoring just two minutes in with a 49-yard TD and half way through the first quarter he added a 25-yard TD reception from Zane Ries to jumpstart the Bishops.
The Yeomen offense was stymied all night long as the attacking Bishops' defense held Oberlin just 195 yards to go along with five sacks, two interceptions, and two fumble recoveries.
OWU led 38-0 at the half and built up a 59-0 lead before Oberlin would eventually get on the board late in the third quarter as freshman quarterback
Evan Smith-Rooks orchestrated a 10-play, 92-yard drive that was capped off with a 16-yard TD toss to
Jack Diskin - marking the first-career touchdowns for both players. Diskin led the Yeomen with 73 yards on three catches.
Yeomen starter
Chris Allen Jr. was under duress throughout the contest and finished 11-of-27 for 86 yards and two interceptions before giving way to Smith-Rooks who went 9-of-14 for 131 yards in relief.
David Harris led the Yeomen defense with nine tackles, while
Kason Sunderland and
Antonio Sanderson each registered their first-career interceptions in the loss.
OWU moved to 2-0 with the win while the Yeomen dropped back to 0-2.
The Yeomen will look for a better outcome next week when they close out their season-opening three-game homestand against Denison at 1 p.m.
