Oberlin, Ohio- The Oberlin men's lacrosse team played host to Allegheny College on Tuesday evening, representing the final competition of the 2021 spring season. The 15-14 victory in overtime gave the Yeomen their first win of the season, improving their overall record to 1-1.
Â
Oberlin got off to a hot start, opening the game with a four-goal run started by
Devlin O'Keefe just 19 seconds in the first quarter. The senior connection of
Joey Edell to
Alec Palmiotti gave the Yeomen their second goal before
Michael Muldoon and
Thomas Berle Carman joined the scoring action. Down 4-0, the Gators responded with seven straight goals, nearly shutting the Yeomen out of the second quarter. A crease role from Muldoon ended the Allegheny run and shifted the momentum back in favor of the Yeomen. With just seven seconds remaining, Berle Carman gave OC just what they needed and sent the game into halftime; Oberlin down 7-6.
Â
Both teams swapped goals to open the third quarter, as Oberlin fought to keep the game close. Allegheny's offense rained down on Oberlin as they went on a three-goal run, only ended by a close-range goal from Edell. The Gators didn't lose momentum, however, and finished the quarter with another pair of scores. The fourth quarter was all crimson and gold as
Griffin Cappelletti gave Oberlin two goals late in the game to keep comeback rolling. Down one goal with 1:47 remaining, Edell earned his hat trick with the tie goal to give Oberlin new life ahead of overtime.
Â
The Yeomen made quick work of the added time, as
Maurice Freese and
JT Starcke tag-teamed to win the opening faceoff. A quick pass from Muldoon to Berle Carman sealed the deal for the Yeomen and got the celebration started.
Â
Berle Carman led the Yeomen to their sudden-death victory with four goals. On the defensive end, junior
Colin Regan stepped up in net for the first time in his career, amassing an impressive 14 saves on the night. Junior long-pole
Kiernan Stone scooped a team-high 11 ground balls while Freese won 12 face-offs.

The Yeomen and first-year head coach
Ryan Polak finish their season with a victory and look ahead to the fall and having their roster back to full-strength.
