Oberlin, Ohio – The Oberlin College women's lacrosse team honored its six senior members prior to the opening draw and they finished off the celebration by defeating the visiting Ohio Wesleyan University Battling Bishops 16-10 on Saturday afternoon at the Austin E. Knowlton Athletics Complex.
Eight different Yeowomen accounted for the team's 16 goals with first-year
Audrey Koren joining the senior duo of
Leah Crowther and
Tess Siciliano with three goals each. Senior
Kyra Aviles was in a giving mood as she delivered a team-high three assists to go along with a goal of her own.
After the Bishops posted the game's first tally, Oberlin took control of the game by responding with eight straight goals. Crowther got her hat-trick performance underway with a free-position finish and she would cap the barrage with the final two goals of the rally.
First-year
Emily Shimabukuro would deposit two more Oberlin goals over the final 5:24 of the opening half as the Yeowomen would carry a comfortable 10-4 lead into the intermission.
However, the Bishops would come out hot to start the second half, cashing in three straight goals to cut the Yeowomen's margin in half down to 10-7. With just under 20 minutes to play,
Bette Imhoff would halt the OWU spurt by finishing off a feed from
Maya Blevins.
Following an Ohio Wesleyan score, first-year
Olivia Molfetta would send in her first-career goal to highlight an all-around strong performance that included a team-high seven draw controls and three ground balls.
Siciliano and Aviles would follow with scores to extend the lead back out to six with 9:23 left to play and Koren would tack on a pair in the closing minutes to finish off the victory.
Senior

The win moved Oberlin to 2-1 on the year while OWU dropped back to 2-6.
The Yeowomen are back in action on Wednesday afternoon when they host The College of Wooster at 5 p.m.
