Ashland, OH – The Oberlin College swimming and diving teams hit the road for an away meeting with the NCAA DII Ashland Eagles. Neither team came up on the winning end of the meet but the Yeowomen came close with a score of 154-139, while the Yeomen also fell to the Eagles 188-95.
The meet started with the both the men's and women's 400-yard medley relay teams finishing second before Bella Sites and Hannah Hale went one-two in the 1000-yard freestyle with times of 11:23.69 and 11:32.35, respectively. The Yeowomen continued to succeed as Lucy Lee took first in the ensuing 200-yard freestyle and Ava Peyton won the 100-yard backstroke.
The Yeomen finally took gold as
Nora Holder out-swam the Eagles in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 56.67.
Isaac Viviano kept to success coming as he finished second in the 100-yard breaststroke, followed by
Jonathan Hupfeld and
Finley Barber. Ahead of the diving break,
Ellie Frost and Hale took the top-two sports in the 50-yard freestyle, with
Erik Fendorf finishing first on the men's side of the race.
Diving for the Crimson and Gold,
Sophie Schnake scored a 156.00 while
Lucas Draper earned a 121.45 in the one-meter event. Schnake also competed in the three-meter dive, earning a score of 161.10.
Back in the lanes, Frost earned their second first-place finish of the afternoon with a 56.88 in the 100-yard freestyle. Fendorf did the same for the Yeomen, but with a time of 50.00 flat. As the meet progress, Sites and Hale each earned another nine points for the Yeowomen as they finished first in the 200-yard backstroke and 500-yard freestyle, respectively. The Yeomen struggled to earn podium points over the next several events until Holder and Fendorf finished first and third in the 100-yard butterfly.
Peyton and Frost finished with top times in the 100-yard butterfly, recording a 1:02.62 and 1:03.89. The women's 400-yard freestyle relay was close but the Yeowomen finished second behind the Eagles by just .10 seconds. On the men's side of the final event, Oberlin finished third with an overall time of 3:36.34.
The swimming and diving teams return to Oberlin to host the Oberin Invitational from November 18-20.
