Football Falls at DePauw

Greencastle, IN - The high-powered DePauw University Tigers scored early and often as they cruised to a 66-13 win over the Oberlin College Yeomen on Saturday afternoon at Blackstock Stadium.

The Tigers scored a touchdown on all five of their first-half drives en route to capturing the North Coast Athletic Conference Championship and an automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament regardless of what happens next week.

The Yeomen had a promising drive to open the game but got stalled out in the red zone and were left with nothing to show for it. The Tigers offense didn't take long to respond, covering 87 yards on just four plays for their first touchdown.

Oberlin trailed 21-0 midway through the second quarter but would find its first points of the game on a beautifully designed play-action rollout that left Brandon Davies all alone in the end zone for an easy 3-yard pitch-and-catch touchdown from Chris Allen Jr.

The Yeomen headed into the half down 35-7 and held the Tigers to a field goal on their first possession of the second half to temporarily halt the touchdown streak but the final outcome was never in doubt as DePauw added two more TDs on offense and had two interception returns for scores as well in the second half.

On the game's final play, backup QB Matt Siff connected with freshman Ty Weatherspoon for a 20-yard touchdown, marking the first-career scores for both players in a Yeoman uniform. The TD capped a 10-play, 79-yard drive that lasted 2:30.

Allen Jr. finished 16-of-31 passing for 154 yards with a touchdown and an interception while adding a team-high 56 yards rushing, which was four yards ahead of Ryan McCrum who recorded a season-high 52 yards on the ground.

Davies snagged six balls for 60 yards to accompany his fourth TD catch of the year while senior Christian Arnold had 50 yards receiving on five catches.

Luca Friedman led the defense with 11 tackles, including two tackles-for-loss while David Harris added nine stops in the setback.

The Tigers, who racked up 639 yards of offense, moved to 8-1 overall and remained perfect in NCAC play at 8-0. Oberlin fell back to 1-8 and 1-7 in league action.

The Yeomen will conclude the 2021 season next Saturday with a high noon kickoff at Allegheny.
