Yeowomen Lose to Fighting Scots in NCAC Tournament

Granville, OH- In the opening round of the North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament, the Oberlin volleyball team fell to Wooster 3-0 (17-25, 13-25, 21-25). The postseason match concludes the Yeowomen's season as they finish with an even record of 12-12 and 2-6 in conference action.

Although earning the first point of the match, Oberlin struggled defensively against Wooster, giving way to an eight-point run for the Fighting Scots. An attacking error from Wooster ended the momentum and gave Oberlin an opportunity to put together their own eight-point run. Tied at 10-10 in the first set, the two teams swapped points until the Fighting Scots regained their momentum and earned a 21-15 lead. A kill by Natalie Dufour set the score at 23-17, but Wooster didn't let up and took the first set 25-17. The Yeowomen struggled in the second set, conceding 25-13 to the Fighting Scots. Andréa Jones was the sole highlight of the set, earning three kills, while Taylor Gwynne assisted eight of the Yeowomen's nine kills.

Down 2-0 in the tournament match, the Crimson and Gold opened the third set with a block from Kiki Widran and Hadley Horne, followed by a kill from Jones. The Yeowomen controlled the action, taking at 13-7 lead midway through the set. Not backing down, Wooster slowly climbed their way back into the game to tie at 15-15. Going back-and-forth on points, Horne got the Yeowomen within one at 21-20 but the squad was unable to regain the lead as they fell to Wooster 25-21, ending their time in the NCAC Tournament.

The 2021 season saw major improvements from Oberlin's previous season in 2019. The Yeowomen won two more games and another NCAC match as well as improving the home record from 2-4 to 5-4. A highlight of the season was the Yeowomen's perfect 5-0 record in neutral matches.

The Yeowomen now look ahead to their spring training and preparation for the 2022 season.
