Crawfordsville, IN – The Wabash College Little Giants scored touchdowns on five of their first seven possessions and never looked back in a 49-20 victory over the Oberlin College Yeomen on Saturday afternoon.
Chris Allen Jr. threw for a career-high 371 yards on 23-of-44 passing with two touchdowns and two interceptions.
Brian Colarusso and
Brandon Davies each finished with a career-high 110 yards, while
Bear Broyles recorded 97 yards on just two catches.
The Little Giants led 14-0 after one quarter but the Yeomen would get within a score midway through the second quarter as Colarusso was left all alone in the back of the end zone for a 9-yard TD catch to cap off an 8-play, 62-yard jaunt to make it 14-6.
Unfortunately, the Yeomen momentum was extremely short-lived as Wabash needed just two plays to go 75 yards when Liam Thompson found Cooper Sullivan on a 37-yard scoring strike. The Little Giants would add two more second-quarter touchdowns as they carried a 35-6 lead into the intermission.
Wabash would extend its lead early in the third as Casey Crozier scooped up a blocked field goal and raced 73 yards the other way for a TD.
The Yeomen kept competing and would hit a big play of their own just a minute later when Allen and Boyles hooked up for an 85-yard touchdown.
After the Little Giants ended their scoring with another TD late in the third, the Yeomen would score the lone points of the fourth quarter when rookie running back
Greg Lane raced in from 20 yards out for his first-career touchdown.
Oberlin outgained the Little Giants 494-459, running 68 plays compared to their 63.
David Harris and
Willem Chojnicki led the defense with eight tackles each.
The loss dropped Oberlin back to 0-6 and 0-5 in the NCAC, while Wabash remained unblemished at 5-0 and 4-0 in league play.
The Yeomen return home next week to host Wittenberg for Homecoming and Senior Day. The opening kick is set for 3 p.m.
