Oberlin, OH- The Oberlin field hockey team took Bailey Field for the final time of the season, playing host to the Transylvania Pioneers on Sunday afternoon. A first half goal from Sophomore

Julia Vincent gave the Yeowomen a 1-0 victory. The Crimson and Gold finish the year with a 1-16 overall record and 0-8 in NCAC action.

The Yeowomen took control of the match early and dominated the time of possession over the opening minutes of action.
River Schiff broke open the shooting action with a shot that trailed wide at the 4:56 mark in the first quarter.
Bonnie Wileman earned a penalty corner, but with no more shots coming from either team, the game went to the second quarter.

Two minutes into the second period of action,
Ruby Schreiber,
Meredith Warden, and Wileman all accounted for shots on goal, but a save and a pair of blocks kept the Crimson and Gold off the board. The Pioneers battled for possession, but the Yeowomen reaped the benefits of their aggressive onslaught, scoring their first goal of the game at the 24:27 mark. Senior
Elizabeth Modahl connected with Robinson-Cloete across the cage for the score. Up 1-0, Oberlin continued to fend off Transylvania as the visiting team made a dash for goal in the final seconds of the half. Yeowomen keeper Vincent made the save to keep the Pioneers scoreless and secure the 1-0 lead into halftime.

As the second half got underway, Schiff got the offensive action started again with a quick shot to the near side of the goal but was blocked by a Pioneer defender. The Transylvania offense finally found some momentum midway through the quarter as TU's Emily Long took aim at cage only to be saved by Vincent. Long met up with Vincent again later in the quarter with the Oberlin keeper coming up with the save again to keep the Pioneers scoreless headed into the final quarter of play. Yeowomen and Pioneers traded shots over the first couple minutes but able to maintain possession, Oberlin earned a trio of penalty corners as the game progressed. Although unable to convert on any final shots, the Yeowomen closed the game and secured their first victory of the season.

The Oberlin field hockey squad ends their season on a high note, recording their first win since the 2019 season and the first shutout win since August 31, 2019. The home victory also breaks a long streak of home losses, dating back to the first game of the 2018 season.
The Oberlin field hockey team conclude their 2021 season and now look ahead to spring training and next fall.
