Field Hockey Scores in Loss to Wittenberg

Oberlin, Ohio – The Oberlin College field hockey team got on the board for the first time this season but it wasn't enough as the visiting Wittenberg University Tigers left town with a 4-1 win over the Yeowomen on Friday night at Austin E. Knowlton Athletics Complex.

Senior Bonnie Wileman netted the Yeowomen's first goal since October 13, 2019 in the fourth period as she sent in laser shot from the top of the arc after settling a corner feed from Olivia Jaffe.

The Tigers led 2-0 after the first quarter as Regan Mazzulli opened the game's scoring in the 11th minute with her seventh goal of the season and three minutes later Caroline Ford notched her third tally of the year.

Oberlin settled in and put together a few promising runs in the second period but nothing materialized as the Tigers settled for a 2-0 lead at the intermission as neither team took a shot in the stanza.

Early in third quarter, Sofia Hess would extend the Wittenberg advantage out to 3-0 off a corner service from Victoria Pipinich.

Wileman would the open the fourth-quarter scoring with her second-career goal to put some pressure on the Tigers but they would later add one more score to leave no doubt in the eventual outcome.

Julia Vincent made four saves over the first 45 minutes of action while Mary Post added four more stops in the fourth quarter.

The Yeowomen will conclude their five-game homestand on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. against Allegheny College.
