Greenville, PA – The Oberlin College women's basketball scored 26 first-quarter points and never looked back en route to a 70-30 road victory at Thiel College on Friday night.
Oberlin used a diverse attack as 10 different players scored in the game, headlined by first-year
Rowan Smith who poured in a collegiate-best 16 points on 6-of-10 shooting. Senior
Jasmine Sorrells notched her seventh double-double of the year with 16 points and 12 rebounds in just 21 minutes of work. Senior
Cheyenne Arthur reached double-figures for the sixth time in the least seven games as she netted 13 points.
The Yeowomen held the Tomcats to just a deuce in the opening 10-minute period as they led by 24 points heading into the second quarter.
Late in the first half, a 3-pointer from
Leo Ross swelled the Yeowomen advantage out to 30 at 39-9 and the Yeowomen would ultimately carry a 41-12 cushion into the intermission.
Thiel would outscore Oberlin 13-11 in the third quarter but the final outcome was never in jeopardy as Oberlin would go up 59-28 on a
Jai Cunningham layup with 6:30 left to play and the Yeowomen would only continue to widen the margin from that point on.
The Yeowomen shot 43.3 percent (26-of-60) in the win, registering 21 assists on their 26 made baskets, which included an impressive 8-of-16 showing from beyond the arc.
Oberlin finished with a 43-25 advantage on the glass and turned 21 Thiel turnovers into 33 points.
The Yeowomen have now won three straight to run their record to 7-10 overall while they sit at 4-4 in the North Coast Athletic Conference with eight more league games on the horizon.
Their next conference test will be on Wednesday night when they host the Ladies of Kenyon College at 6 p.m.
