Springfield, Ohio – The Oberlin College women's basketball team couldn't find much rhythm on the offensive end of the floor in a 48-35 setback at Wittenberg University on Saturday afternoon.
The Yeowomen played strong defense and kept the Tigers in check for the majority of the contest, but in the end their offensive inefficiency was too much to overcome. Oberlin shot 25.4 percent (15-of-59) from the floor and scored just four points in each of the second and third quarters.
Senior Jasmine Sorrells was a bright spot, posting her second straight double-double and fifth of the season with 13 points and 10 rebounds to go along with five blocked shots. Classmate Cheyenne Arthur was the only other Yeowoman in double digits as she posted 11 points, hitting on three of her five triple-tries.
The Tigers led 8-2 midway through the first quarter but Oberlin would finish the frame strong to even the count at 11-11 after 10 minutes of play.
However, the Yeowomen went a combined 3-of-28 in the second and third quarters which allowed the Tigers to take a 35-19 lead into the fourth quarter.
Oberlin would outscore the Tigers 16-13 in the fourth quarter but it was too little too late to have an impact on the game's final outcome.
The Tigers, who shot 32.7 percent (17-of-52), got a game-high 16 points from Kristie Kalis en route to moving to 11-4 on the year and 4-2 in the NCAC. The loss set the Yeowomen back to 4-9 overall and 2-3 in conference play.
The Yeowomen will look to get back on track on Wednesday night at The College of Wooster. Tip-time is set for 6 p.m.
