Oberlin, Ohio – The Oberlin College men's tennis team took to the Hunsinger Courts for their annual invitational this past weekend.
The matches were setup based on each player's Universal Tennis Rating (UTR).
Sam Topper led the Yeomen with a 2-1 record in singles with two of his matches going to third set super breakers. The sophomore beat Jake Stockhausen from Wittenberg 6-4, 7-6 (7-3) and defeated Vinh Thai of Ohio Northern 6-3, 2-6, 1-0 (10-4). His only loss came in an epic super breaker that he lost 17-19 to drop the match 6-4, 4-6, 0-1 (17-19).
Elliot Nuss also went 2-1 in singles play, cruising to a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Stockhausen while grinding out a 7-5 second set win over Andy Siciliano of John Carroll to take the match in straight sets 6-2, 7-5.
Nuss also had a good showing in doubles with partner
James Dill as the duo went a perfect 3-0 with a pair of 8-5 wins over Tiffin and Case Western Reserve before besting Allegheny 8-6.
Zachary Vaughn rebounded from last weekend's loss against Findlay with a pair of straight set wins in singles play. The senior breezed through a match with Gianluca Perusini (ONU) 6-0, 6-2 and defeated Cooper Miller from Allegheny 6-3, 6-2.
Camron Cohen and Dill both went 2-2 in singles action to add to Oberlin's 14 individual victories.
The Yeomen have this week off before heading to Kalamazoo, Michigan next weekend for the ITA Regionals.
