Oberlin, Ohio – The Oberlin College men's tennis team turned in unblemished performance on Senior Day, blanking the visiting the Allegheny College Gators 9-0 on Saturday morning at the John W. Heisman Field House.
Prior to the match, the Yeomen honored seniors
Matthew Gittings and
Elias Duthinh.
In doubles play, Oberlin cruised at No. 1 and No. 3. In the top flight,
James Dill and
Elliot Nuss were 8-1 victors, while
Camron Cohen and Gittings coasted to an 8-3 triumph in the third position. The No. 2 bout was much more closely contested but
Stephen Gruppuso and
Zachary Vaughn were able to outlast Zach Anderson and Colton JohnsonTaylor, 8-6.
In singles play, the No. 1 flight was the first to finish as Gruppuso set aside Wonjoon Cho 6-2, 6-1.
The tightest singles bout was at No. 2 where Cohen pushed past Matt Andrus 6-4, 7-5.
Gittings capped off a 2-0 day with a 6-1, 6-2 dismantling of Mackenzie Knowlton in the sixth position.
Dill was a convincing 6-1, 6-2 winner at No. 3 while
Sam Topper dropped just one game at No. 5 against Cooper Miller, winning 6-0, 6-1 to notch his team-leading 12
th singles win of the year
At No. 4, Nuss worked for a 6-3, 6-4 win over Zach Anderson.
The Yeomen, who rank 40
th in the nation, are now 8-10 on the year and 3-1 in the NCAC East.
Oberlin is back in action on Sunday as travel to No. 12 Case Western. The first serve is set for 2 p.m.
