Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Yeomen Fall to Hope College

Oberlin, Ohio — The Oberlin College men's lacrosse team fell to the visiting Hope College Flying Dutchmen, 11-7, on Saturday afternoon.

Offensively the Yeomen were led by sophomore Tom Decker who recorded three goals and an assist, bringing his season goal total to 10. Decker's classmate Matthew Barry recorded a goal and an assist, with Joey Edell tallying a pair of goals for the Crimson and Gold.

The first half was all Dutchmen as they built up a 9-3 lead. Hope scored the first three goals, before Thomas Berle Carman beat the Hope net minder with 1:55 left in the first. The team's first tally was followed by Edell's third goal of the season, but Hope's Max Kuiper would beat the horn to make it 4-2 at the end of the first.

The second quarter is where Hope created its separation, outscoring Oberlin 5-1. The lone Yeomen point came off the stick of Decker from Barry. The Flying Dutchmen won 10 of the 14 face-offs, and grabbed 26 of the 40 loose balls in the first 30 minutes of play.

After some halftime adjustments, the Yeomen got off to a good start as Edell scored his second of the day just 26 seconds into the second half. The Dutchmen answered the Oberlin goal with two goals their own. With less than a minute on the ticker, Decker recorded his second goal of the game off a nice feed from freshman Michael Muldoon to make it 11-5 heading into the fourth.

Oberlin began to control possession which started to create some opportunities and forced three Hope penalties in the period. Barry got his goal with just over nine minutes left off the first Dutchmen infraction, but the Yeomen failed to score on the other extra-man opportunities, leaving the outcome never in doubt. Hope's goalie Nick Schanhals allowed just one more goal, coming off Decker's twine as he made eight saves in the quarter.

Calvin Filson played all game in cage for the Crimson and Gold, making a season-high 14 saves on the 25 Dutchmen shots on cage. Filson also was credited with two caused turnovers, while sophomore Jack Stevens caused three Hope turnovers.

The Dutchmen outshot the Yeomen 44-40 in the contest and dominated the face-off winning 16 of the 22 bouts at the OC logo.

The Yeomen will look to get back on track on Wednesday when they travel to Westerville, Ohio to face Otterbein University Cardinals starting at 7 p.m.
