Yeomen Cruise Past JCU

Oberlin, Ohio – The 37th ranked Oberlin College men's tennis team made short work of John Carroll University, defeating the Blue Streaks 8-1 on Saturday afternoon at the John W. Heisman Field House.

Playing for the first in nearly two weeks, the Yeomen showed no signs of rust as they won all six singles battles and the top two doubles flights.

Camron Cohen and Stephen Gruppuso were 8-4 winners over Andy Siciliano and David Sinense at No. 1 doubles, while Elliot Nuss and James Dill went unblemished in an 8-0 blanking of Parker Holyn and Adi Jha in the second position.

Gruppuso made quick work of Sinense in the lead singles match-up, winning each set by 6-1 counts.

Zachary Vaughn dispatched Siciliano 6-2, 7-5 at No. 2 and Cohen followed with a 7-6, 6-2 triumph over Gustavo Garcia in the third position.

Nuss was a 6-1, 6-4 victor over Jha at No. 4 and Sam Topper was an easy 6-0, 6-1 winner over Jack Payne at No. 6.

The only match to go three sets was the No. 5 battle where Dill dropped the first 4-6 but regrouped to take down Andrew Trine 6-1 before winning the race to 10 in the super-break.

The Yeomen, who are 2-7 on the year, are idle until Monday, March 25 when they open their spring break slate in Hilton Head, South Carolina, against Carleton College at 9 a.m.
