Oberlin, Ohio – Using the seven-point scoring system, the Oberlin College men's tennis team fell to Division II Ashland, 6-1, on Saturday afternoon at the John W. Heisman Field House.
"Today was a tough loss but I am happy with our effort and attitude," Head Coach
Eric Ishida said.
With doubles counting as one team point, the Eagles were able to secure the early advantage by winning in the top two flights. However, Oberlin's No. 3 grouping of
Matthew Gittings and
Zachary Vaughn did prevail over Colten Clark and Tche Kun Teng by a 6-4 count.
The Eagles imposed their will on the Yeomen throughout singles play, winning five of the six battles in straight sets.
However, the Yeomen's
Elliot Nuss did upend Kun Teng at No. 4 with wins of 6-3 and 6-1, marking the fifth victory of his Oberlin career as he now rests at 5-6 overall.
The busy weekend for the Yeomen continues on Sunday night as they will tangle with a pair of Division I foes at the Medical Mutual Tennis Pavilion in Cleveland, Ohio. Oberlin will first take on the Bonnies of St. Bonaventure at 4:30 p.m. before squaring up against the host Vikings of Cleveland State at 7:30 p.m.
