Yeowomen Bow Out of NCAC Tournament

Springfield, Ohio – The eighth-seeded Oberlin College volleyball team lost its opening-round match in the North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament to No. 5 Hiram in straight sets on Friday night on the campus of Wittenberg University to cap off the 2019 campaign for the Yeowomen.

After a competitive 25-21 setback in the first set, Oberlin dropped the next two games by the scores of 25-17 and 25-12.

The Yeowomen hit just .095 for the match with 27 kills against 17 errors and Oberlin failed to drop in a single ace while the Terriers finished with 11 service points in the match.

Natasha Radic led Oberlin with seven kills while All-NCAC Second Team selection Emery Beacom finished with six send-downs in the loss. Playing in their final collegiate match, seniors McLean Sammon and Jaya Flynn-Young each finished with five kills.

Samantha Lam dished out 23 assists, while the backline was paced by Lauren Fitts and senior Maura Gibbs as they each registered 12 digs.

In the tight first set, a 4-0 Oberlin spurt cut the Terriers' lead down to 20-18 but the Yeowomen were unable to get any closer than two points down the stretch. Unfortunately, the Yeowomen never threatened in the final two games.

Oberlin ends the year at 9-15 overall and 1-7 in the NCAC. The Yeowomen will start their preparations for the 2020 season during the non-traditional spring season.
