Field Hockey Topped by Kenyon

Oberlin, Ohio – The visiting Kenyon College Ladies earned a 4-0 victory over the Oberlin College Yeowomen on Tuesday afternoon at Austin E. Knowlton Athletics Complex.

The Ladies, who entered tied for second in the NCAC, came into the match off a 1-0 loss to Ohio Wesleyan last week but had won their previous 11 contests prior to that point.

Kenyon posted a season-high seven goals against the Yeowomen in the team's first meeting this year but today Oberlin did a much better job keeping them in check, allowing just one second-half goal.

The Ladies jumped out in front in the fifth minute when Sarah Metzmaier followed the shot of Olivia O'Connell and sent the rebound back in. Kenyon would go on to post an additional first-quarter goal as Bella Kern would send in a rebound off Emma Hyer's shot to make it 2-0. Tara Shetty would net the only goal of the second session as Kenyon carried a 3-0 lead into the intermission.

The game was never in doubt in the second half as the visitors went on to tack on one more goal courtesy of Metzmaier who was assisted by Shetty.

Yeowomen goalie Vanessa Baker worked the first three quarters and finished with nine saves over her 45 minutes of action while Mary Post added five stops in the final period. Lea Watkins-Chow also aided the backline effort with her fourth defensive save of the season.

The loss dropped the Yeowomen back to 3-13 overall and 0-7 in the NCAC, while Kenyon moved to 13-3 and 6-1 in league play.

Oberlin will conclude its season on Saturday at noon against Denison. Prior to the match the program will honor seniors Libby Royer, Luisa McGarvey, Fatima Escalera, and Hayley Segall.
