Cross Country Teams Ready for Inter-Regional Rumble on Saturday

Oberlin, Ohio – The Oberlin College men's and women's cross country teams take to their home course this weekend for their annual Inter-Regional Rumble.
 
This year's competitive field includes teams from all eight regions as well as nationally ranked and regionally ranked teams for both the men's and women's races. Speaking on the field, Coach Ray Appenheimer added "We are thrilled to be hosting one of the best Division III meets in the country with great competition, fast times and results that will shake the national polls".
 
The women's team is looking to take home the title for the fourth consecutive year and currently sits at 10th in the country and first in the great lakes region. In order to do so they will have to out due some talented squads that began with local foes from Baldwin Wallace (#19), John Carroll (#21) and Case Western Reserve (#23). Other participants from the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Association poll include Washington & Lee (VA) (#32), Wisconsin-Stevens Point (#33) and Otterbein (#34). The field also showcases regionally ranked schools from Rhodes (TN) (#4 – South Region), Occidental (CA) (#4 – West), Loras (IA) (#5 – Central) and Bates (ME) (#7 – New England). Newly regionally ranked teams from Wednesday's latest polls include Trine (IN) (#9 – Mideast), Brockport (N.Y.) (#10 – Atlantic) and Mount Union (#10 – Great Lakes).
 
The men's team finished 12th out of 27 teams at last year's event and will compete against four teams in the top 25 in Otterbein (#11), John Carroll (#15), Bates (#17) and Berea (KY) (#21). Other teams in the field ranked in the polls include UW-Stevens Point (#23), Case Western Reserve (#29) and Trine (IN) (#34). The men will see a repeat of some teams from the women's regional rankings in Occidental (#5), Rhodes (#6) and Loras (#5) while Ohio Athletic Conference foes Heidelberg and Baldwin Wallace round out the great lakes region at #9 and #10 respectively. Washington & Lee is also regionally ranked on the men's side (#3 – South).
 
The women's varsity meet (6K) starts the rumble off at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday with the men's varsity meet (8K) to follow at 11:15 a.m. The women's and men's open races wrap-up the rumble at 12:00 p.m. and 12:45 p.m. respectively.
