Oberlin, Ohio — The Oberlin College field hockey team fell to The College of Wooster Fighting Scots by a final score of 7-0 on Bailey Field Sunday afternoon.
The Yeowomen offense looked much improved on Sunday afternoon as they put six of their 13 shots on goal, which is the most chances Oberlin has created in conference play this season.
Defensively, the Yeowomen held their ground as
Lea Watkins-Chow highlighted the day with her third defensive save of the weekend and team-high fourth in her rookie campaign. Senior goalkeeper
Kennedy Kline finished the game with five saves, while backup keeper
Julia Vincent made three in relief.
The Yeowomen played a strong first half, but Wooster would score the opening two goals of the contest. The Fighting Scots opened the scoring when Sydney Schuster scored five minutes in off a pass upfield by Maeven Barry. Ten minutes later Katie Agatucci finished off a cross by Erika Womack.
Oberlin created its chances in the latter minutes of the first half as
Amelia Huang had her one-on-one opportunity kicked aside by Wooster's Katie Shideler. The offensive push led to a
Libby Royer penalty corner.
Emma Broun's slap shot off the corner was turned aside by Shideler. In the same minute Royer had her own opportunity that was blocked and
Luisa McGarvey's shot sailed wide.
With less than five minutes left before the intermission Oberlin manufactured three chances. Williston, Vermont, native
Abby Rosenthal had a chance on the door step, but Katie Padavick swooped in at the last second to make a defensive save for the Fighting Scots. Rosenthal's classmate
Elizabeth Modahl got off two shots moments later, but her first attempt was slapped aside by Shideler and second was blocked down by a defender.
After halftime the Fighting Scots offense came out firing as they score three goals in the opening six minutes of the half. The Yeowomen pushed upfield in the 29th minute, but Huang's shot was blocked and Royer's try went wide of the cage.
The Fighting Scots tacked on two goals late. Junior
Hayley Segall had a fast break opportunity in with 18 minutes left against Shideler, but the keeper came out of cage to vault the Oberlin threat.
The loss drops the Yeowomen to 1-10 on the year and 0-7 in conference play. The Fightning Scots are now 5-2 against NCAC opponents and 9-2 overall.
The Yeowomen are off until next Saturday when they travel to Gambier, Ohio for a match up with the Kenyon College Ladies. The opening whistle is set for 11 a.m.
