Oberlin, Ohio — The Oberlin College field hockey team dropped its second conference game of the season to the defending NCAC Champion Denison University Big Red, 6-0, on Bailey Field Thursday evening.
In the opening half, Denison controlled the pace of play and built up a 3-0 lead capped by a Ali Gakenheimer goal off a pass by Charlotte Godfrey. The Yeowomen continued to battle in the midfield and created a pair of opportunities in the final five minutes before the intermission.
Junior
Libby Royer streaked down the left sideline and sent a cross to the front of the net, but
Bonnie Wileman's deflection went wide. Just a minute later, Wileman had another opportunity in front of the cage, but Denison's goalkeeper Teya Adam was up for the challenge.
Early in the second half, the Yeowomen pushed up field but failed to generate any other chances. The Big Red tacked on three more goals in the second half as they were rewarded 10 of its 22 penalty corners in the second stanza.
Senior goalkeeper
Kennedy Kline held her ground as she faced 34 of Denison's 36 shots and made 20 saves, which is two shy of her career-high. Backup goalkeeper
Julia Vincent made her collegiate debut as she relieved Kline with 6:01 on the clock.
The Yeowomen fall to 1-5 overall and dropped its second conference match-up, while Denison goes to 4-1 and 2-0 in conference play.
