Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Yeowomen Roll by Gators

Meadville, PA – All Five Yeowomen starters finished in double figures as the Oberlin College women's basketball team cruised to a 74-52 victory at Allegheny College on Wednesday night.

Junior Olivia Canning needed just 16 minutes of action to score 13 points and rip down eight rebounds. Fellow post-mate Abby Andrews added 12 points on 5-of-7 shooting, while senior classmate Tyler Parlor dropped in 11 points and seven rebounds. Sophomore point guard Ally Driscoll posted 10 points to accompany her team-high four assists. Junior Alex Stipano also netted 10 points in the triumph.

It was a high-paced first quarter as Oberlin led 27-20 after one 10-minute stanza. However, the Gators would cool off in the second session as they went scoreless for over seven and a half minutes to allow Oberlin to break the game open. A 3-pointer from Stipano with 3:42 left in the half made it a 40-20 Oberlin lead. The Gators would shrink the deficit down to 16, but the Yeowomen ultimately carried a 46-29 cushion into the locker room.

Midway through the third, Oberlin led by 19, but the Yeowomen would use a 13-0 run to open up a 67-35 advantage with under a minute left to play in the quarter.

With the final outcome never in doubt, Oberlin was able to play its taxi squad in the fourth quarter as they continued to gain valuable experience.

The Yeowomen shot 45.6 percent (25-of-57) from the floor, which included a 6-of-15 (40%) showing from beyond the arc. The stingy Yeowomen defense held Allegheny to just 33.3 percent (19-of-57) in the loss.

OC also ended with a 44-28 differential on the glass and had a 36-12 advantage in points in the paint. The Yeowomen's aggressiveness led to them taking 25 free throws with 16 makes for a 64 percent clip. Allegheny ended the game just 4-of-6 at the line for 66.7 percent.

Oberlin moved to 18-6 overall and 13-2 in the NCAC. The Gators fell back to 5-18 and 2-13 in league play.

The Yeowomen will close out the regular season on Saturday afternoon as they take on No. 7 DePauw at 3 p.m. The Tigers boast a 23-1 record and are a perfect 15-0 in the NCAC.
