Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Yeomen Complete Season Sweep of Allegheny

Meadville, PA – The Oberlin College men's basketball team earned a 65-53 road win at Allegheny College on Wednesday night.

Junior Eli Silverman-Lloyd and sophomore Joshua Friedkin spearheaded the Yeomen charge as they combined for 41 points. Silverman-Lloyd poured in 21 points on 7-of-15 shooting, while Friekdin posted 20 tallies in the win. Sophomore Christian Fioretti added nine points to accompany his game-high 13 rebounds.

The Gators stayed within striking distance for the majority of the first half, but Oberlin ended the frame strong to take a 34-24 lead into the break. The Yeomen were clinging to a 24-22 lead with 3:42 remaining in the stanza and closed the frame with a 10-2 spurt. The run featured eight points from Silverman-Lloyd as he cashed in two 3-pointers and a layup en route to posting 13 first-half points.

A layup from Friedkin early in the second half ballooned the Yeomen's lead out to 15, 41-26, with 17:11 left to play, but the Gators continued to stay close as Oberlin was unable to deliver the knockout punch.

A 7-0 Gator spurt shrunk the Yeomen's 12-point edge down to five at 54-49 with 3:36 left to expire, but they would get no closer the rest of the way. A triple-hit from Silverman-Lloyd and a pair of charity tosses from Friedkin pushed the margin back out to 10 to give the Yeomen enough breathing room to finish off the victory.

Oberlin shot just 35.8 percent (19-of-53) from the floor, but had a large advantage at the free throw line, hitting on 21-of-29 freebies for a 72.4 percent success rate. The Gators checked in a 33.3 percent, hitting on 19-of-57 shots. The Yeomen also held a 43-37 margin in rebounding.

The Yeomen moved to 11-13 and 5-12 in the NCAC while Allegheny dropped back to 5-19 and 2-15 in the NCAC.

Oberlin concludes the regular season on Saturday afternoon as it travels cross state lines to take on the Tigers of DePauw. Tip-time is set for 1 p.m.
