Yeowomen Celebrate Senior Day in Style

Oberlin, Ohio – The Oberlin College women's basketball team celebrated Senior Day on Saturday afternoon with a 60-53 victory over the visiting Tigers of Wittenberg University.

Prior to the game, the program honored seniors Anna Moore, Abby Andrews, and Tyler Parlor for their career contributions. Together, they have been a part of the best four-year stretch in program history with 56 wins.

Today's victory marked the ninth straight for the Yeowomen as they ran their record to 17-6 overall and 12-2 in the NCAC.

However, the triumph did not come easy as the Tigers gave Oberlin fits throughout the 40-minute affair as the game featured eight ties and eight lead changes. The Yeowomen trailed 48-46 with 4:15 left to play, but a put-back layup from Andrews and a jumper from Ally Driscoll put Oberlin back out in front by a deuce with 3:25 left to expire.

The Yeowomen would never trail the rest of the way as a 3-pointer from Parlor pushed the advantage out to 55-48 at the 1:28 mark. The Tigers would get back within four, but a pair of free throws from Driscoll and a game-clinching layup from Olivia Canning capped the victory.

Driscoll finished with a career-high 18 points to go along with six rebounds, four assists and five steals. The Ellicott City, Maryland, native went 5-of-8 from the floor and was 8-of-10 at the charity stripe. Parlor notched her second double-double of the season, tying a season-high with 13 points to accompany her 11 rebounds. Andrews also chipped in 11 points and six boards in the win.

Parlor started the game with a personal 6-0 run as Oberlin jumped out to a quick 12-4 lead, but the Tigers came back to cut the deficit down to 17-13 at the end of one period. The Yeowomen would never surrender the lead in the first half, but the Tigers were within striking distance throughout. A string of five straight points from Delaney Williams tied the game at 26 with 1:03 left to go in the frame, but Driscoll would score the final three points of the stanza to make it a 29-26 Oberlin advantage at the break.

The third quarter was nip and tuck as it featured five lead changes and three ties along the way. Wittenberg held a 37-33 cushion midway through the period, but Oberlin was able to even the score at 40 heading into the fourth quarter.

The Yeowomen, who have had great fourth-quarter success throughout season, did so once again to earn the win and move into sole possession of second place in the NCAC.

Oberlin finished with a 26-18 edge in points in the paint and had a 16-6 advantage on second chance points as they out-rebounded the Tigers 45-35, including a 14-10 margin on the offensive end.

Wittenberg, who was led by 14 points from Williams, heads back to the Springfield, Ohio, with a record of 12-11 overall and 7-7 in the NCAC.

The Yeowomen return to action on Wednesday night at Allegheny College. Tip-time is set for 6:00 p.m.
