Yeomen Top Bobcats to Conclude Holiday Classic

Oberlin, Ohio – The Oberlin College men's basketball team turned in a commanding 73-59 victory over the Bobcats of Pitt-Greensburg on Saturday afternoon at Philips Gym.

Senior Eli Silverman-Lloyd, who scored the Yeomen's first nine points of the game on three straight 3-pointers, finished with a season-high 24 points on 9-of-18 shooting, which included a 6-of-11 showing from beyond the arc.

Junior Christian Fioretti was the only other Yeoman in double figures with 10 points to go along with a game-high seven assists. Fellow backcourt mate Joshua Friedkin knocked down three triple-tries for nine points to accompany his five assists.

One of those threes by Friedkin at the 6:11 mark of the first half gave Oberlin its first double-digit lead of the game at 27-15. The gap would later balloon out to 20 as four straight points by Andre Campbell pushed the count to 37-17 with 2:25 left to expire in the session.

The Bobcats would cut the deficit down to 13 early in the second half but the Yeomen responded with a 15-1 run that featured 10 points from Silverman-Lloyd to give them their largest lead of the game at 52-27.

With the game well in control, Oberlin did take its foot off the gas down the stretch as the Bobcats put together a late charge to shrink the Yeomen advantage all the way down to nine, 68-59, with 92 seconds remaining in the game. However, the miracle comeback bid was ultimately squashed on yet another 3-pointer from Silverman-Lloyd and a fastbreak layup by Fioretti to put the finishing touches on the victory.

Winners of four straight, Oberlin is now 6-3 on the season and a perfect 3-0 on its home court.

Oberlin, which got a game-high six-rebound performance by Isaac Finestone, won the battle of the boards 37-26 and ended with a 26-14 advantage in points in the paint.

The Yeomen shot 48.2 percent (27-of-56) from the floor, which included an impressive 14-of-28 performance from 3-point land. The Bobcats checked in at a 40.4 percent (23-of-57) clip in the loss.

The busy stretch for the Yeomen continues on Monday afternoon as they will have their toughest test of the season at Division I Kent State. Tip-time is set for 2 p.m.
