Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Yeowomen Breeze by the Bishops

Delaware, Ohio – The Oberlin College women's basketball team registered its fifth consecutive victory, knocking off the Ohio Wesleyan University Battling Bishops, 66-41, on Saturday afternoon at Branch Rickey Arena.

The Yeowomen entered the game leading the North Coast Athletic Conference in defensive field goal percentage (.335) and today they proved why, holding the Bishops to just 25 percent shooting with 15 makes on 60 shots.

Offensively, junior guard Alex Stipano continued her torrid pace as she racked up a game-high 18 points, connecting on four triple-tries along the way. The Alexandria, Virginia, native has reached double figures in her last five games and nine of the last 10. Ally Driscoll chipped in with nine points, while Abby Andrews added seven points to accompany her team-high nine rebounds. Sophomore Jasmine Sorrells provided a spark off the bench, finishing with eight points, four blocks, and three rebounds in just nine minutes of action.

Oberlin started the game up 6-0, but the Bishops answered back with an 8-0 run to go out in front, but that proved to be their lone lead of the game.

The Yeowomen led 13-8 after one and eventually built up the margin to 21-10 on a layup from Olivia Canning at the 6:50 mark of the second quarter. OWU shrunk the gap down to six, but Oberlin ultimately took a 28-17 advantage into the intermission.

With under four minutes to play in the third, Stipano would cash in a 3-pointer in transition to balloon the Yeowomen lead to 42-22. A pair of Tyler Parlor free throws to close out the quarter made it 51-27 heading into the final frame.

The outcome was never in doubt in the fourth quarter with Oberlin leading by as many as 27 points on two occasions.

Oberlin shot 47.2 percent (25-of-53) from the field, which included a 6-of-11 (54.5%) showing from beyond the arc. The Yeowomen won the rebounding war 43-34 and produced 11 second-chance points compared to the Bishops' five.

During its five-game winning streak, Oberlin has outscored its counterparts 351-218 for an average margin of victory of 26.6 points per game. Overall, Oberlin is now 13-6 and 9-2 in the NCAC.

The Yeowomen will look to make it six in a row when they welcome the College of Wooster to town on Wednesday night for a 6 p.m. conference clash.
