Oberlin, Ohio – The Oberlin College women's basketball team scored a season-high 76 points to defeat Allegheny College Gators, 76-32, at Philips Gym.
The Yeowomen had a strong day shooting as they hit 31-of-65 shots from the field for a 47.7 percent success rate and on the defensive end they kept the Gators in check as they only made 20.3% (14-of-69) of their attempts from the field.
Abby Andrews led the Oberlin offense as she scored 12 points to accompany her 10 rebounds. It was Andrews' first double-double of the year and fifth of her career. Junior sharp shooter
Alex Stipano led all scorers with 23 points. The Alexandria, Virginia, native shot 50.0% (7-of-14) from the field and was 5-of-9 (55.5%) from beyond the arc.
The opening period, Oberlin jumped out to a 13-8 lead when senior co-captain
Tyler Parlor knocked down a jumper at the 3:18 mark. A pair of baskets for the Gators cut the Yeowomen advantage to 13-12 with 57 seconds left, but
Cheyenne Arthur made her lone basket from the field with 31 ticks to make it 15-12 at the end of the first.
In the second quarter Oberlin began to pull away as they outscored Allegheny 24-6 and forced four turnovers in quarter to take a comfortable 39-18 lead into halftime.
The Yeowomen outscored the Gators 37-14 in the second half, including a 20-3 fourth quarter, leaving the outcome never in doubt.
The Yeowomen scored 19 of its season-high 76 points off turnovers and finished the game with 26 points from the reserves, led by nine points from
Jasmine Sorrells who added five blocks and four rebounds.
Oberlin improves to 7-2 in the NCAC and is 9-6 for the year. Allegheny falls to 2-7 in league play and is 5-11 this season.
The Yeowomen are back in action on Saturday when they travel to Granville to face Denison University at 1 p.m.
