Oberlin, Ohio – The No. 9 ranked Tigers of DePauw University earned a 53-40 win over the Oberlin College Yeowomen on Saturday afternoon at Philips Gym.
The Yeowomen did their job defensively, holding the Tigers to season lows in points (53) and field goal percentage (29.8/ 17-of-57), but unfortunately the other end of the floor was just as troublesome for them. Oberlin made 15-of-52 shots for a 28.8 percent clip, marking its second worst shooting performance of the season.
Tyler Parlor led Oberlin with 11 points on 5-of-10 shooting to accompany her four assists and four rebounds.
Maggie Gross was the only other Yeowoman in double figures as she dropped in a career-high 10 points, going 3-of-4 from the field and 4-of-5 at the free throw line.
The first two quarters were controlled by the Tigers as Oberlin cashed in just five of 26 shots in the opening 30 minutes of action. DePauw led19-9 after one period and took a 30-15 lead into the halftime break.
The second half was much more closely contested as the Yeowomen outscored the Tigers 25-23 over the final 30 minutes of play, but ultimately the first-half deficit was too large to overcome.
DePauw took a 44-27 lead into the final quarter, but Oberlin continued to scratch and claw to stay in the game. A 3-point play by Gross and a jumper from
Alex Stipano early in the fourth quarter had the margin down to 12, but a dagger 3-pointer from Sydney Kopp let the Tigers exhale for a moment.
The Yeowomen would get within 11 two times, and later trim the margin down to nine, 49-40, on a fast-break layup by Parlor, but just 67 seconds remained in the game.
Kopp finished with 17 points and 13 rebounds, while Claire Keefe guided the Tigers with 18 points.
DePauw out-rebounded Oberlin 53-29, including a 16-3 mark on the offensive end that translated into 12 second-chance points.
The Yeowomen are now 8-6 overall and 6-2 in the NCAC, while the Tigers remained unblemished in league play at 8-0 and return home 16-1 overall.
Oberlin will look to halt its mini two-game losing skid when it welcomes Allegheny College to Philips Gym on Wednesday night. Tip-time is set for 6 p.m.
