Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Yeomen Roll by Brooklyn in Home Opener

Oberlin, Ohio – The Oberlin College men's soccer team kicked off Homecoming Weekend in grand fashion, handing the visiting Brooklyn Bulldogs a 6-1 defeat on Friday night at Fred Shults Field.

Despite giving up the game's first goal, the Yeomen never felt the pressure as they responded in a big way. After watching a flurry of promising chances go array in the first 10 minutes of the match, it appeared it would only be a matter of time before the Yeomen found the back of the net.

Back-to-back goals from Jack McMillin within a two-minute span quickly put the Yeomen out in front. The first was a thing of beauty as he danced through multiple defenders before ripping a piercing strike to the lower left corner of the goal. Moments later, he would again create on his own, making space to the right of the box before sending it in from 15 yards out.

In the 34th minute, reigning NCAC and United Soccer Coaches National Player of the Week, Timothy Williams would continue his torrid pace as accepted a perfectly placed through-ball from Trenton Bulucea and would send it home for his seventh tally of the season.

Oberlin would eventually take a 4-1 lead into the intermission as senior Ben Jennings registered his first-career goal with the help of two beautiful passes. Sophomore Griffin Burns sent a cross from the nearside over to rookie Michael Candelori who headed back towards Jennings in the middle of the box for the finish. It was the first-career assists for both Burns and Candelori.

With the large advantage in hand, Oberlin was able to go deep into its bench and have the reserves gain valuable in-match experience.

While the eventual outcome was never in doubt, the Yeomen would tack on two more scores for good measure in the closing moments.

Junior Daniel Tuzzolino would chip-in the first goal of his Oberlin tenure with the help of a Bulucea feed in the 87th minute.  Slightly over a minute later, a Brooklyn foul in the box sent Ben Land to the penalty spot where he promptly sent in his first-career goal.

The Yeomen controlled of play throughout the contest, finishing with a 30-4 margin in shots while taking 10 corners compared to the Bulldogs none.

Connor English wasn't tested much between the pipes, but did finish with two saves.

Oberlin will have its toughest test of the season tomorrow night as Knights of Calvin College come to Fred Shults Field boasting the nation's No. 2 ranking in the United Soccer Coaches Preseason Poll. The opening touch is set for 7 p.m.
