Mequon, Wisconsin – The Oberlin College field hockey team defeated Lindenwood (WI) University by a score of 5-2 to open its season on the campus of Concordia (WI) University.
The Yeowomen, who won their first season opener since 2012, outshot the Lynx 17-7 and put 14 of their shots on cage.
Amelia Huang led the Oberlin offensive attack as she scored a goal and tallied two assists. Junior goalkeeper
Kennedy Kline made two saves and earned her first career shutout.
Oberlin scored the first five goals of the game and the only goal in the first half when junior
Jenna Gyimesi assisted sophomore
Luisa McGarvey in the 27th minute.
In the second half, Oberlin doubled its lead when Huang connected with
Jenna Gyimesi who buried her first goal of the year off a feed from Huang at the 40:17 mark. 16 minutes later, Huang scored one of her own off a pass from freshman
Reet Goraya. Goraya and Huang connected again 30 seconds later when Huang assisted the freshman for her first career goal to extend the Oberlin lead to 4-0.
Sophomore
Libby Royer closed out the scoring for the Yeowomen in the 59th minute off a pass from senior
Dillon Sebastian.
Lindenwood scored the final two goals of the contest, but Oberlin held on to earn the 5-2 victory.
