Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania – The Yeowomen volleyball team won a pair of none-conference games in a tri-match at LaRoche College.
Oberlin has now won three matches in a row to run its record to 8-3 and already surpassed its win total from all of last season.
Earlham Match
Oberlin had a strong start to its day, winning in straight sets against Earlham College by the scores of 26-24, 25-20 and 25-19.
The Yeowomen were led by sophomore
Lexi Mitchell. The NCAC honorable-mention selection a year ago tallied 11 kills and 10 digs in the match.
Senior
Dana Thomas and sophomore
Maura Gibbs also had excellent performances as well. Thomas tallied 10 kills and had three aces. Gibbs added 10 kills.
Conducting the offensive attack was junior setter
Samantha Lam who tallied 40 assists, which was six shy of her season-high.
Along with Mitchell, defensive specialist
Emily Kelkar added eight digs for the Yeowomen.
Sara Chang chipped in with three aces in the triumph.
LaRoche Match
Oberlin won game two in five sets. In a back and forth match, the Yeowomen won with scores of 25-10, 17-25, 25-23, 14-25 and took the final set 15-9.
Mitchell and Gibbs had another strong match for Oberlin. The two outside hitters recorded over half of the kills in the contest as Mitchell led the team with 13 and Gibbs recorded 12.
Lam and
Sara Chang set up the Yeowomen offense attack. Lam tallied 23 assists and Chang recorded a season-high 19.
Defensively, Mitchell led the team with 12 digs and Kelkar added another eight digs to go along with a match-high five service aces.
