Oberlin, Ohio - The Oberlin College men's lacrosse team fell to the Tigers of DePauw University by a score of 16-11 in the season finale for both teams.
The Yeomen honored seniors
Eric Hager,
Kinori Rosnow, and
Jack Fabrizio prior to the match.
It was a tale of two halves as the Tigers outscored the Yeomen 10-4 in the first half, but were outscored by the Yeomen in the second fixture 7-6. Down the stretch the Yeomen failed to cash in on scoring chances to close the gap and make up for first half failures.
The close contest began with a DePauw goal scored by midfielder Ben Sherman who finished with five on the day. The Yeomen responded with a goal by freshman midfielder
Regan Chasney at 12:20 in the first quarter. From there, DePauw dominated the first half by cashing in on nine more opportunities throughout the first two quarters. Junior midfielders
Reese Koburov and
John Pierce both notched much needed goals for Oberlin, while Hager added his first of what would end up being five goals in his last collegiate game.
Junior midfielder
Steve Kelleher commenced the second-half scoring playing attack in replace of the injured Fabrizio and
John Sutherland. Kelleher's goal at 14:31 was followed by another Sherman goal for the Tigers to go back up six tallies. After a trio of DePauw goals late in the third quarter, the Yeomen responded by scoring five of the last seven goals in the game. Both Hager and Koburov tallied goals in the last fixture to put the Yeomen in a decent spot, but it was too little too late.
In his final contest, Rosnow went out with a bang dominating at the X going 24-of-30, scooping up a game-high 15 ground balls, and adding a goal to finish with 13 on the season.
On the defensive end, freshman long-stick midfielder
Erik Zeug was causing havoc again, dispossessing the Tigers four times on his own. Additionally, freshman defender
Max Scott caused two turnovers of his own to finish with 15 total on the season.
Freshman goalie
Calvin Filson couldn't quite get anything going today as he only saved five shots out of 21 total.
The Yeomen concluded their 2017 campaign 6-9 overall and 2-5 in conference. Compiling a better record than last year's squad, the Yeomen look to better their output again in 2018. Â Â Â Â
