Yeowomen Take a Bite Out of the Gators

Oberlin, Ohio – The Oberlin College women's lacrosse team put on an impressive defensive display, defeating the Allegheny College Gators 14-3 on Tuesday night at the Austin E. Knowlton Athletics Complex.

The Yeowomen did not surrender a goal in the first half and have now held opponents to three goals or less four times this season. Senior goalie Alexa L'Insalata finished with 13 saves in just over 52 minutes between the pipes.

Senior Natalie Rauchle led the scoring attack with seven goals, while rookie Eliza Amber chipped in with a hat trick. Senior Sara Phister had the offense in rhythm as she dished out a career-high five assists to go along with a game-high six draw controls.

Sophomore Hayley Drapkin opened the game's scoring less than four minutes into the contest to jumpstart an 8-0 first half for the Yeowomen. Rauchle's 8-meter finish with 20:53 left in the opening stanza made it 4-0. She would go on to score the final two goals of the session to give the Yeowomen a comfortable halftime advantage.

Rauchle and Phister connected twice early in the second half to make it 10-0 before the Gators finally got on the board with just under 21 minutes left to play. Alexa Maloney got one past L'Insalata with the help of a Shelby Pieper assist.

With the final outcome never in doubt, the Yeowomen continued to stay aggressive in the second half. Maggie Mullard would cash in her second goal of the night and Eliza Amber would complete her three-goal performance. Phister also added her 28th score of the season.

The win for the Yeowomen marked their first triumph over the Gators since 2012. Oberlin is now 9-1 on the season and 3-1 in conference play. The Gators dropped back to 5-4 and 1-2 in league action.

Oberlin will be back in action on Saturday afternoon at Kenyon College. The opening draw is set for 2 p.m.
