Oberlin, Ohio – The Oberlin College women's lacrosse team cruised to an easy 20-point victory, knocking off the Kalamazoo College Hornets 22-2 on Saturday afternoon at the Austin E. Knowlton Athletics Complex.
Oberlin scored early and often, holding the Hornets without a shot attempt in the first half as they led 15-0 at the intermission.
A total of 10 different Yeowomen scored on the day, led by junior
Natalie Rauchle who finished five goals to accompany her two assists. She now has nine tallies through the first two games of the season.
Classmate
Sydney Garvis cashed in three goals and added two helpers, while sophomore
Hayley Drapkin added six points on four assists and two goals.
Sara Phister, who led the team with five draw controls, had two goals and two assists, as did rookie
Josephine An. Her initial goal with 11:04 left in the first half made it 11-0 and it marked the first goal of her collegiate career.
Sydney Allen and
Sabrina Deleonibus each cashed in two scores, while
Eliza Amber,
Morgan Daruwala,
Michaela Puterbaugh, and
Mia Battle each added one. Amber also registered two assists that went towards the Yeowomen's 16 helpers in the game.
The Yeowomen out-shot the Hornets 41-4 in the game and secured 20 of the game's 26 draws. OC also finished with a 30-7 edge in ground balls.
The two Hornets' goals came courtesy of Caroline Mundell and Nicole Huff in the second half. K'Zoo is now 0-2 on the year.
Oberlin, which is 2-0 on the season, is back in action on Thursday evening when it welcomes Otterbein University to the Austin E. Knowlton Athletics Complex for a 6 p.m. showdown.
