Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Yeomen Upended at Wittenberg

Springfield, Ohio – The Wittenberg University Tigers used big first – and – third quarters en route to defeating the Oberlin College men's lacrosse team, 20-8, on Saturday afternoon.

The Yeomen had ample opportunities to score, but they ran into Aaron Blossey in the Tigers' goal as he came away with 23 saves to preserve the win for the Tigers.

Oberlin out-shot Wittenberg 49-42, won the ground ball 30-13, and were also victorious on 26-of-32 face-offs, however none of that mattered in the end as the Tigers earned the 12-goal victory.

Wittenberg jumped on the Yeomen with eight first-quarter goals and held a six-goal advantage after 15 minutes of play. Regan Chasney and Jack Fabrizio cashed in the two OC scores, both of which were unassisted.

The second period was much more closely contested with each team posting three tallies on the board. Kinori Rosnow would make it 9-3 with the help of an Eric Hager assist and moments later Hager would get into the scoring act to cut the margin down to five. In the closing moments of the opening half, Jay Messina got free and sent in a pass from Hager to make it 11-5 Tigers at the intermission.

Chasney would net the first goal of the third quarter to get within striking distance, but the Tigers responded in a big way - ripping off five straight goals to open up a 17-6 advantage.

Will Prangley and Messina both scored for the Yeomen in the fourth, but it was too little too late as the final outcome was never in question.

The Tigers moved to 5-3 overall and 2-0 in the NCAC. Oberlin fell to 3-5 and 0-2 in league action.

Rosnow won 24-of-30 battles at the face-off X and scooped up 10 ground balls in the setback. Dan Nerenhausen also secured five ground balls to aid the cause for the Yeomen.

In goal, freshman Calvin Filson finished with seven saves to run his season total to 74.

The Yeomen will be back in action on Wednesday, March 29 when they step out of conference to take on Washington & Jefferson University on the road. The opening face-off is set for 7 p.m.
