Women’s Lacrosse Remains Unbeaten

GREENSBORO, N.C. –  The Oberlin College women's lacrosse team ran its record to a perfect 5-0, defeating the Guilford College Quakers, 14-5, on Sunday to cap off its spring break trip to North Carolina.

The Yeowomen last started a season with five straight wins in 2014 and ended the year at 8-5 overall.

Maggie Mullard and Natalie Rauchle led the Oberlin attack, splitting four goals each in the win. Sydney Garvis followed the duo with two tallies against the Quakers while a quartet of Yeowomen also found the back of the Guilford net.

Oberlin scored the first four goals of the game, with Mullard cashing in the first three tallies. Following a Quaker goal, the Yeowomen would rip off six straight scores. Back-to-back finishes from Rauchle made it 6-1.

Sara Phister, Mullard, and Garvis also scored before Rauchle found the net once more in the opening frame as Oberlin took a 10-2 lead into the intermission.

Out of the break, the two sides exchanged goals with Josephine An tallying her sixth of the year on a free position opportunity with 27:27 remaining. Guilford's fourth goal of the match would be followed by a pair of Yeowomen goals from Hayley Drapkin and Morgan Daruwala.

After Guilford's fifth score of the day, Rauchle put an exclamation point on the bout by beating the Quaker goalie with 4:46 left in regulation.

In goal, sophomore Siena Marcelle finished with three saves in the win. Oberlin out-shot the Quakers 29-17, but lost the ground ball battle 14-12. Oberlin outworked the Quakers on the draw control with Eliza Amber leading the way with four. Daruwala and Puterbaugh followed with three and two respectively.

The Yeowomen will be back in action on Wednesday, March 22 as they make the short trek over to Baldwin Wallace University. The opening draw is set for 7:30 p.m.
