Yeowomen Remain Unbeaten; Take Sting Out of Yellow Jackets

BEREA, Ohio - Oberlin College women's lacrosse continued its undefeated season with a commanding 10-point win over Baldwin Wallace University on Tuesday night.

The win keeps the Yeowomen at a perfect, 6-0 with the 14-4 win over the Yellow Jackets, while the loss pushes the Jackets to 5-2 on the year. The 6-0 start marks the best start for the Yeowomen under the guidance of four-year head coach Lynda McCandlish and one of the best starts in the history of Oberlin College women's lacrosse. 

The Yellow Jackets got on the board first as Brie Martineau snuck a shot past stating goalie Siena Marcelle just 1:57 into regulation.

Trailing by a goal, the Crimson and Gold responded quickly. Hayley Drapkin tickled the twine for the 13th time this season to knot the match at 1-1.

The Yeomen would put up three more unanswered goals from leading scorer Natalie Rauchle, Drapkin and Sydney Garvis to take a 4-1 lead. Following a Yellow Jackets goal, Jenna Butler notched her second of the year before the Baldwin Wallace closed the half with a score at the 1:51 mark.

Out of the halftime break, Oberlin tallied four unanswered goals to break the game open. Rauchle completed her hat-trick in the initial 3:31 of the second half, while Garvis tallied her second of the game, 12th of the year and Drapkin sealed her own hat-trick to push the Yeowomen in front, 9-3.

BW found one last goal and the Yeowomen poured it on in the closing 15 minutes of the game with five more scores.

Sara Phister, Butler, Rauchle, Drapkin and Garvis all found the back of the net to close the Tuesday night battle inside of Finnie Stadium.

The Yeowomen were an offensive force outshooting the Yellow Jackets, 28-12, while the Crimson and Gold won the ground battle with 29 groundballs compared to BWU's 16. Drapkin and Marcelle led the effort with six groundballs each, followed by Emily Berner with four and senior Sloane Garlick with three.

in net, Marcelle and senior Alexa L'Insalata split time finishing with six saves and one stop respectively.

Drapkin and Rauchle were the forces leading the Oberlin attack, posting four goals each. Drapkin finished as the games top point-getter with six points as she collected assists on the Rauchle's fourth goal and Garvis' third. The sophomore, Boulder, Colorado native, also tallied two caused turnovers in the win.

On the draw Rauchle led the way with eight draw controls followed by Berner who collected three.

As a unit, the Yeowomen went 3-of-7 from free position opportunities.

Oberlin College women's lacrosse will look to continue the unblemished campaign when they return to action on Saturday, March 25. The Yeowomen will travel to the College of Wooster and take on the Scots t 1 p.m. to open North Coast Athletic Conference play.
