Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Yeowomen Roll by the Berg in Season Opener

Tiffin, Ohio - The Oberlin College women's lacrosse team opened its 2017 season in grand fashion, knocking off Heidelberg University, 17-2, in the Berg's inaugural game as an NCAA Division III lacrosse program.

The Yeowomen scored early and often, netting the game's first 11 goals before the Berg secured the program's first score for former Oberlin assistant coach Rosie Knisley who is now the head coach at Heidelberg.

Junior Natalie Rauchle, who led the team with 62 scores a season ago, finished with four goals and two assists. The Edina, Minnesota, native was a perfect 3-of-3 on free-position attempts and added a team-high four draws.

The game's first goal came just over a minute into the contest as first-year Eliza Amber opened her collegiate scoring account with an 8-meter goal.

In total 10 different Yeowomen scored on the day, which included the first collegiate goals for first-year Mia Battle (2) and sophomore Sabrina Deleonibus. Sophomore Hayley Drapkin recorded her first-career hat trick with three scores, while Morgan Daruwala cashed in a pair. Sydney Garvis, Michaela Puterbaugh, Sara Phister, Jenna Butler, and Marissa Maxfield all finished with one goal each.

Butler led the Yeowomen with four ground balls as Oberlin finished with a 17-12 edge in that category. Oberlin also secured 16 of the game's 20 draw controls and out-shot the Berg 31-10, which included a 23-4 advantage in shots on goal.

Siena Marcelle got the start between the pipes and made two saves in her 60 minutes of work.

Oberlin led 13-1 at the half and drastically slowed the pace down in the second session as the two teams combined for five more goals over the final 30 minutes.

The Yeowomen, who were 9-of-11 on clears, return home to host Kalamazoo College on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m.
