Yeowomen Fall to Colorado in Pike Peak Holiday Classic Finale

Colorado Springs, CO – The Oberlin College women's basketball team dropped its second game of the 2017 Pikes Peak Holiday Classic by a score of 67-58 to the host Colorado College.
 
Alex Stipano led all scorers with 26 points as she made 9-of-13 shots from the charity stripe to go with her three triples. Along with Stipano, senior Abby Andrews contributed eight points, making 4-of-8 of her field goal tries. Junior Olivia Canning dominated the boards grabbing 14 on the day, including nine on the offensive end of the floor.
 
The Yeowomen earned their first lead of the contest off a made jumper by Stipano with 6:55 on the clock.  The Tigers took the lead right back, but Ally Driscoll knocked down a pair of free throws to give Oberlin a 9-8 lead with 4:03 left in the opening stanza. Colorado would outscore the Yeowomen 10-7 before the first intermission to take a 18-16 lead to the bench.
 
Oberlin regained the lead early in the second when Andrews made a jumper at the 7:58 mark. A Canning layup extended the Yeowomen cushion to 30-24 with 3:36 left in the half, but a late 6-0 run before the half by the Tigers tied the game up at 30-all heading into the intermission.
 
After each team scored six points to open the half, Colorado would go on a 9-3 run to give them a 45-39 lead with 3:17 left in the quarter. Oberlin held the Cougars to two points the remainder of the period and fought their way back to within two, 47-45, when Stipano finished at the hoop to close the scoring in the third.
 
The run for the Yeowomen continued as Stipano scored the first eight points of the fourth, giving Oberlin a 53-47 lead with 6:53 left in the game. A quick 6-0 run by the Tigers erased the Oberlin lead to tie the game up at 54-54 with 4:18 on the clock. Oberlin got its lead back to four, 58-54, with 2:47 left off a pair of free throws by Stipano, but the Yeowomen were held scoreless for the remainder of the game.
 
Oberlin finished the day 16-of-22 (72.7%) from the foul line and shot 19-of-64 (29.7%) from the field. Colorado shot 26-of-69 (37.7%) on the day and were 11-of-12 from the charity stripe.
 
The Yeowomen fall to 6-4 on the year, while the Tigers improve to 4-8.
 
Oberlin goes right back into conference play on Wednesday night when they travel to Hiram for an 8 p.m. opening tip.
