Box Score 2 Pittsburgh, PA – The Oberlin College men's tennis team dropped two dual matches to a pair of teams that were nationally ranked a season ago to wrap up the fall portion of its schedule.

In first dual match of the day, Oberlin fell to the Captains of Christopher Newport University - who ended last season ranked No. 23 in the nation - by a 9-0 count
In doubles, the Yeomen's top pairing of
Manickam Manickam and
Robert Gittings fell, 8-1, to Christopher Newport's pairing of Justin Cerny and David Reed who were ranked 14
th in the country last year.
In the other two doubles matches,
Camron Cohen and
Stephen Gruppuso dropped their draw by a score of 8-5 and the duo of
Michael Drougas and
Matthew Gittings fell short, 9-7, in the No. 3 doubles flight.
In singles play, Drougas, Gruppuso and Manickam would each force their respective opponents to a third set. Drougas, who squared off against the No. 14 regionally ranked singles player form a year ago, won the first set 6-2, but would drop the final two sets, 6-3, 6-4 in the top flight against Reed. Gruppuso would win his first set by a score of 7-5 in the No. 2 match, but would also fall 7-5, 6-4. After dropping the first set in the No. 3 match, Manickam won the second 6-4, but would fall 7-5 in the decisive third frame.

Robert Gittings and
Camron Cohen played in the fourth, fifth and sixth flights and fell in straight sets.
CMU Match, Lost (6-1) l Box Score
The Yeomen dropped their second match of the day by a score of 6-1 to Carnegie Mellon University, which was ranked No. 10 in the country at the end of last season.
The teams second doubles pairing of Gruppuso and Cohen earned the lone Oberlin point with an 8-3 victory against Carnegie Mellon's Jeffrey Chen and Daniel Levine.
Manickam and
Robert Gittings in the No. 1 match, and
Matthew Porges and
Will Katzman in the No. 3 flight each lost by scores of 8-3.
In singles, Drougas lost to Daniel Levine - the No. 8 nationally ranked singles player last season by scores of 6-0, 6-1. In addition, Vaughn would fall 6-1, 6-2 in the No. 4 bout, while Gittings dropped the No. 5 match 6-2, 6-0. Cohen also lost in straight sets, succumbing to a 6-1, 6-2 defeat by Tommy Cheng at No. 6.
The No. 2 and 3 singles flights featuring Grappuso and Manickam would not finish before Carnegie Mellon won the decisive match point.
The Yeomen wrap up the fall season with a 0-2 dual match record, but competed well in all three tournaments in this portion of the schedule. Oberlin is back in action on January 28 when they face NCAA Division I Cleveland State University.
