Greencastle, IN – The Oberlin College men's soccer team saw its season come to an end at DePauw University on Saturday afternoon as the Yeomen fell to the Tigers, 2-0.
The Yeomen had their chances to score as they put six of their nine shots on frame, but ultimately, they suffered just their third shutout loss of the season. First-year
Charlie Stube led Oberlin with two shots on goal in the setback.
The two foes headed into the halftime intermission tied 0-0, but it didn't take long for the Tigers to break the stalemate as Craig Kenney deposited a bouncing ball in the box past Oberlin's
Connor English in the 50
th minute.
DePauw would find an insurance tally in the 68
th minute as Sam Kramer sent in his third goal of the year.
Oberlin continued to battle to the final whistle as senior
Jonah Blume-Kemkes flew a couple of shot attempts wide of target, while
Matthew Bach-Lombardo and Stube had shots turned away by Tigers' netminder Ben Davis.
Overall, DePauw fired off 18 shots compared to Oberlin's nine, but they held just a slight 7-6 edge in shots on goal. The Yeomen were also held without a corner, while DePauw earned three in the win.
English made five saves in his final game to run his season total to 69 and career count to 84. He, along with Blume-Kemkes, Bach-Lombardi,
Jesse Lauritsen,
Ben Jennings,
Jake Frankenfield, and
Timothy Williams each played their final contest in the crimson and gold.
Oberlin concluded the season at 7-9-2 overall and 3-6-0 in the NCAC.
