Greencastle, IN – The 17th ranked Tigers of DePauw used a big first half en route to defeating the Oberlin College women's basketball team, 66-41, on Saturday afternoon.
Sophomore
Alex Stipano led the Yeowomen charge with 15 points as she has now scored in double figures for the fifth time this season. Classmate
Olivia Canning added eight points on 3-of-5 shooting, while
Abby Andrews chipped in with seven points and a team-high six rebounds.
The loss dropped the Yeowomen back to 4-11 overall and 3-5 in the North Coast Athletic Conference. The high-powered Tigers moved to 16-1 and remained unblemished in the NCAC at 8-0.
Oberlin stayed tight throughout the majority of the first quarter, trailing just 13-11 with 1:27 left in the stanza, but the Tigers closed the frame on a 7-0 spurt.
The Yeowomen cooled off in the second quarter, scoring just five points in the period as the Tigers led 33-16 at the intermission.
Oberlin continued to fight throughout the second half -- scoring 11 points in the third and 14 in the fourth -- but never threatened the eventual outcome of the game.
The Tigers had three players finish in double figures, led by a game-high 16 points from Blair Carlin.
Oberlin shot 32 percent (16-of-50) from the floor, but struggled from beyond the arc as they dialed in on just 1-of-12 triple-tries. DePauw checked in at 37.3 percent (25-of-67) shooting and won the rebounding war 45-31.
The Yeowomen will be back in action on Wednesday, January 18 at Allegheny College. Tip-time is set for 6 p.m.
