Polar Bears Pounce on Yeomen Early

Ada, Ohio – The Oberlin College men's soccer team was unable to slowdown the high-powered attack of Ohio Northern as the Polar Bears topped the Yeomen, 4-0, on Saturday night in Ada, Ohio.

The Polar Bears, who were the Ohio Athletic Conference champions and 2015 NCAA Tournament participants, jumped on the Yeomen with three first-half goals.

In the 26th minute David Janusz notched his second tally of the year, as he headed home a deflection off of OC keeper Koryn Kraemer to make it a 1-0 game. Just over two minutes later Tommy Troy received an assist from Matt Kinkopf to increase the margin.

ONU, which sits just outside the top 25 and is receiving votes in the NSCAA Coaches Poll, took a 3-0 lead into the intermission as Joseph Schulte found space inside the six-yard box and one-touched a feed from Nathan Libertowski into the net.

The Polar Bears would tack on an extra insurance goal early in the second half and kept the Yeomen scoreless the rest of the way. Kinkopf recorded his second assist of the night, this time setting up Patrick Sabol for his first goal of the year in the 50th minute of play.

The Yeomen had their chances to get on the board, finishing with a 9-8 edge in shots on goal while also earning five corners compared to their four. However, the stingy Dean McNeil turned away all nine Yeomen shots. Kraemer made all four of his saves in the first half.

Jesse Lauritsen and Jack McMillin led Oberlin with two shots on goal each. The Yeomen fell back to 1-1 with the setback while ONU moved to 2-0 on the young season.

The Yeomen return to action on Friday evening when they cross state lines to battle Geneva College (PA) at 7 p.m.
